Week in Review
Quick journal-esque update, for my own sanity’s sake:
I’ve been strapped for time recently. Lots of working, and a decent amount of social life time.
- I got drunk on a Wednesday night for the first time in a while, and had a damn good time doing it. Even if the bar sucked (that particular one always does, every freaking time I go), the people I saw more than made up for it.
- Thursday was a REALLY great Warren practice (I’m feeling great about the new songs!), followed by seeing Does It Offend You, Yeah? who put on a heck of a good live show. Morgan grabbed me during “Let’s Make Out” and egged me on to scream the hook, which I was more than happy to do. Very cool.
- Last night was Cut Copy/Black Kids/Mobius Band at Pure, which is typically a gay bar. I’m straight, myself, but the sheer amount of dancing there was definitely a nice change from the usual hipster shows. I had forgotten how much fun dance shows are — stayed til 3 am.
- The Warren mixes are finished. Some final tweaks are to be made, and then we’ll release this thing faster than you can say… well, something with one syllable, I’m sure. Yes, I’ve heard them, and yes, they’re a LOT of fun. I hate rocking my own music (especially when one of these songs is about 4 years old, no joke), but I haven’t been able to stop listening. The sounds we got out of my synth are absolutely awesome.
- Dana graduated yesterday, so I’m going to visit her in her hometown with my good buddy Mark. After that I’m sure to be all over the city.
- Finally, I’m stopping this whole “music every single weekday” thing. Trust me, I’ll be posting tunes I like a LOT, but doing it every single weekday (especially lately, if y’all couldn’t tell) is a bit on the intense side. I have 11,000+ songs to go through, and not enough time to pick every single song I think others would dig :).
It’s nice to be busy!
JET - “Rip It Up”
It’s guilty pleasure day. This track is from Shine On, their most recent album. I’m one of the few people I know that actually digs this band, and I’m not shamed to admit it… this track basically sums up why; it’s just a catchy, damn fun song to listen to, and as a band, they are as well.
Wanted: Jeans that don't constantly fall down
Alright, I kind of want to get a pair of custom made jeans. Anyone know how expensive that would be? Best place to do it? (NYC) It’s tough for me with all this low-rise bull shit. I have a very high waist and I end up pulling up my pants every 3 seconds! Or..does anyone have a good suggestion for high-waisted skinny jeans? Yeah, I’m putting this out there…Thanks!
Grow an ass! :)
Mos Def (f/Talib Kweli) - “Know That”
I wish all of Mos Def’s endeavors came out as fluid and confident as Black on Both Sides. Maybe now that he’s out of his contract he can focus on making music on his own terms. In any case, this song showcases the playfulness and cleverness between Kweli and Mos in the true spirit of when they were known as Black Star. Tight flows, intelligent lyrics, and a catchy-ass backbeat. How can you lose?
At the Drive-In - “Arc Arsenal”
A modern-day classic. Cedric Bixler’s voice has only gotten stronger since this track, off Relationship of Command, was released, but still — I feel that ATDI best encapsulates the experimentation of the Mars Volta with the aggression and more “straight-forward” nature of Sparta. Nauseating request #435894: Re-unite, please.
Hope everyone’s weekend was stellar, and that this week treats y’all well!
