John Mayer Trio - “I Got A Woman”

I never really appreciated John Mayer until a couple of years ago when I was studying abroad in London. One of my roommates started blasting this (as much as you can off laptop speakers), an awesome cover of an already awesome song, and I began to see just how amazing John Mayer’s guitar playing is. And you can’t discount the tightness of the rhythm section; Palladino and Jordran are just mechanical in their time, while playing with a real passion for fun that you can just hear. Great times.

I read this review this morning… how hilarious is that? The only other albums I’ve seen get panned like that are a Jet album and a Sonic Youth album, heh… that was, of course, when the album had a 0.0 and not a 3.3 :P

Ok, such a great guilty pleasure. I heard “Shut Up and Let Me Go” before (yes, from the iPod commercial and from watching iJustine be really hot while listening to it) as well as “That’s Not My Name” (which I mistakenly thought was a Fergie song for a second when I was shopping in Express For Dudes one day)… and I jived pretty well with both of these tracks.

Now, most people know my unhealthy obsession with lead-off tracks from albums, and this is yet another one. I’m absolutely fascinated with how easy something like “ah ah ah’s” can get stuck in one’s head, and after one spin of this song and having the chorus chisel it into your brain, I’m sure this will be understandable.

Modest Mouse - “Dashboard”

Here’s a nice throwback to last summer (for me at least, anyway). I always loved Modest Mouse’s faster-paced tracks — Isaac Brock tends to freak out more on these tracks vocally, which I like. Plus, you know, it’s nice out, and listening to fun pop music on sunny days is pretty much the best.

Good call. It’s rare to see grime shit do well (the closest I’ve seen is Hadouken! so far). This only proves that its momentum is definitely on the upswing.

HEALTH - Heaven (Narctrax Remix)

I really really enjoy the HEALTH // DISCO remix album. It’s awesome how it can maintain the excellent drone-y noise rock that blogs have been going nuts for, and at the same time provide a little more mass appeal by adding enough movement to the songs to where it holds your attention (and can make you move, under the right conditions). Check this out to see what I mean.
